Sundays
What to Expect
Arriving somewhere new for the first time can be strange. You can get a feel for our Sunday sermons on our YouTube channel; on this page, you’ll find a short guide to what to expect if you join us in-person.
Our Sunday gatherings are at 10.3am, and last between an hour and an hour and a quarter. There’s a Sunday School during the service for 3s-11s, and a creche zone available throughout the service for under-3s. We also have a Wednesday morning service of Holy Communion, following the Book of Common Prayer, which starts at 10.30am. Click here to find out what’s happening this coming weekend.
We’re on Church Road in Edgbaston, next door to Edgbaston Golf Club, between Edgbaston Priory Club and the Vale Student Village. Click here for our address and a map.
There’s no dress code! Please feel free to wear what you like.
When you arrive at the door, one of our welcome team will greet you, give you an order of service, and direct you to a seat. You are very welcome to just come in and watch what’s going on, or to engage with what’s happening as much as you like.
Our services are introduced by one of our church leaders, and start with a time of sung worship all together. There will be readings from the Bible, opportunities to respond to God in prayer, and often an invitation to receive the Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion). We also a variety of activities for children: teaching from the front followed by a Sunday School for 3s-11s, as well as time to share news with the rest of the congregation.
Our services are particularly aimed to be accessible to younger families. Hopefully they’ll be kept engaged for the parts of the service where everyone is– but please don’t worry about them making noise! About 15 minutes in, children aged 3-11 will be invited to join the St Bart’s Sunday School which meets in St Monica’s Room, just behind the main church building. Our Sunday School leaders are recruited in line with the Church of England’s Safer Recruiting practice and adhere strictly to our Church Safeguarding Policy in all their work.
Children return to the 9.15 service for church family news and the closing song, after which we have time to socialise with one another, and there’s plenty of space for children to meet each other and let off some steam.
Our creche zone is available for any pre-schoolers and their grown-ups to make use of throughout our services: soft toys, books and games in a safe corner of the building.
We are glad to be be able to gather for public worship in a COVID-secure way. Face coverings and social distancing are no longer legal requirements in churches; there is, though, a part of the building set aside where we’re asking people to carry on with social distancing and face coverings . We are also continuing to broadcast our services online, so that people not able to join in-person are still able to participate.

There is a range of different groups and activities happening throughout the week at St Bartholomew’s; click one of the links to discover more about what goes on.
If you’ve joined us recently, we would love to get to know you. Please get in touch to say hello, so we can help you get involved with church life here.
